ABOUT 5000 JOBS YOU SHOULD BE TAKING A LOOK AT!!!

And don't think that these careers are only for guys. In today's world more and more women are considering and choosing careers in the construction trades.

This website and the soon to be available CD-ROM, "TRADE UP" is designed to provide you with information to help you consider a future in the construction industry. You can get to know what you need to do to get the right training and experience to be successful in one of the Trades.

The construction industry is booming right now. You can just about take your pick of trades in any sector of the industry that interests you. How about driving a piece of huge earth moving equipment in the roadbuilding sector? As Alberta's industries grow we'll need more roads to handle the increased population and industrial traffic. You can expect to be making big money for a long time if you take up the challenge and learn to operate equipment in this rapidly expanding part of the construction industry.

The oil sands mining and upgrading industry alone is looking at investing close to $30 Billion over the next ten years to add to their already impressive oil sands mining and upgrading facilities. On top of that Alberta has become a world leader in the production of petro-chemicals. We're expanding our forest industries and agricultural processing plants as well. Building all of this stuff is what we call "Industrial Construction" and there is going to be tons of it going on in Alberta for a number of years to come. The work on these projects can be highly complex and requires very skilled trades people. The challenges are great but so is the compensation.

If you are interested in working a little closer to home, why not look at the residential or commercial construction sector. As more and more people flood into Alberta to take advantage of our economic boom, and as the earnings of Albertans continue to increase, we see the demand for housing go through the roof. Almost every major community in Alberta is experiencing an increasing demand for housing. In some cities such as Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, and Fort McMurray the demand is outstripping the supply. Framers, finishing carpenters, roofers, electricians, plumbers and other trades are all required to meet the demand. For much the same reason we need all of these trades in the commercial and institutional construction sector as well. As people move in we need more hospitals, schools, offices, warehouses, stores, etc. to handle their needs. The added bonus here is that many of these trades are also required for industrial construction work and it's fairly easy to work on either type of construction depending on your preference at the time, and the contractor you are working for. Often the same contractor will have work in both sectors of the industry.

No matter what your preference is, from operating huge earth moving machines to framing houses, the Alberta Construction Industry can provide you with a challenging, financially rewarding career along with the pride of being able to point and say "I built that".
